Substance magazine was launched in spring 2008 and won General Excellence at the Southern California Journalism Association of Community Colleges competition in fall 2008. Out of 78 schools, Substance went on to win General Excellence at the state JACC competition. Photo Editor Aldo Padilla, Design Editor Beatrice Alcala and Editor-in-Chief Jessica Cardenas won first place for the magazine’s front cover.
Featuring a diverse group of writers, ideas and styles, this new bi-annual publication has broughten another outlet for journalistic expression and opportunity to the Mt SAC campus. Issue three is coming out in June.
