NLGJA Scholarship
The National Lesbian and Gay Journalists Association is offering a scholarship up to $1,000 to student journalists seeking funding for writing projects on issues that directly affect the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgendered communities.
To earn the scholarship, applying students are highly encouraged to develop innovative multimedia and traditional journalism projects that promote a better understanding the LGBT community.
The deadline to submit a scholarship application is May 15, and applications postmarked after the due date will not be considered for the 2009 award.
Proposals that feature non-traditional story ideas will get preference for the scholarship award, but traditional print, magazine, and broadcast news stories are also accepted.
The winner of the scholarship is expected to complete their proposed project in the following academic year.
Students are advised to include an outline for their project proposal, with a timeline for completion, in their letter of application. Include copies of previous projects involving LGBT issues for consideration.
Applying students must provide proof of enrollment in a journalism or mass communication program at either a two-year, four-year or graduate school (in Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino, or Ventura counties) in order to be eligible for the award.
Your name, mailing address, email address, and the college you are attending must be clearly stated in the letter of application
