The 100+ degree heat at Hilmer Lodge Stadium seemed unbearable for both Riverside (2-1) and Mt. SAC (4-0) once the game went under way.
With only a combined number of 10 points scored in the first half, there was no telling how much energy would be seen as the game continued on.
After a 23-yard touchdown pass from Mounties quarterback Nick Lamaison to teammate Daniel Masifilo with 7 minutes left in the first quarter, the possession of the ball switched sides for most of the way until a 25-yard field goal from Riverside’s Marco Barrera with just 8 seconds left made it a 7-3 game.
Both teams struggled early offensively but a pair of touchdowns from Mounties running back Bryce McBride followed by a Marcus Wagner touchdown put the Mounties well ahead of the Tigers 26-3 in the second half.
With the offense digging most of the way through the Tigers’ defense in the running game, the Mounties would then add 10 more points in the fourth quarter with a 27-yard field goal by kicker Jeremy Brown and highlighted by a Riverside fumble and a recovery by Mounties defensive line Rudolph Fifita who ended up scoring the final touchdown of the afternoon.
The Mounties will take their next game northward as they travel to play at Bakersfield Saturday, Sept. 25 game time starting at 7 p.m.
