Things looked bleak for the Mounties women’s water polo team as they were down 4-5 with just under four minutes left in the game. However things changed as team captain Samantha De La Cerda scored a last second goal with just 10 seconds left in regulation.

When it came to her mentality going in to the last seconds of the game De La Cerda said, “I was just hoping that my goal would go in when I shot it.”

The Mounties entered the first overtime period with guns blazing as they scored three goals in the shortened three-minute overtime period, leaving no room for a comeback by the Pasadena City College Lancers. Freshman player Melissa Pryor said, “We should have started that run earlier, but it was good that we finished like that at least.” Pryor added, “We weren’t going to lose at home.”

The final score of the game was 8-5. The Mounties will participate in a tournament at Cuesta College this weekend on Oct. 1-2 at 4:15 p.m.
