Both the women and men’s Mt. SAC basketball teams have earned spots in their respective 2010 Southern California Regional playoffs and will begin play this week.

Under head coach Laura Beeman, the Mounties’ women’s team finished the season with a 22-6 record (7-1 in division play) and has earned the No. 3 seed. They will be hosting No. 14 Mt. San Jacinto (23-5) in their opening round on Friday, Feb. 26 at 7:30 p.m.

This will be the first time these teams have met this season. After a tough 56-70 loss to San Joaquin Delta in the playoffs last year, the Mounties look to get back to state championship form which saw them hoisting the trophy three times in a row from 2006-2008.

In his inaugural season as Mt. SAC men’s head coach, Allen Caveness’ team finished the season 24-4 (8-0 in division play) and have earned the No. 5 seed as they will host the No. 12 Cerritos College Falcons (18-10) in the opening round on Friday, Feb. 26 at 5:30 p.m.

The Mounties finished the regular season with a 12-game winning streak on its way to the South Coast Conference North Division championship. This will be the first time these two teams have met this season as well.
