A fire is burning off the 60 freeway near the Philips Ranch Road in Diamond Bar causing a school closure and hospitalizations from poor air quality.
Los Angeles Fire Official Mark Savage said the fire is currently 60 percent contained with about 24 fire engines on scene. There are also two water-dropping helicopters and two water-dropping aircraft working on the blaze.
Savage said there have been at least seven fire starts in the area and they are investigating the ignitions.
Los Angeles County Sherriff’s Lieutenant Joe Maxey said a suspect is in custody and being taken to the Walnut Sherriff’s station for processing.
Also, three students from Diamond Ranch High School, the fire command post at this time, have been hospitalized for smoke related problems.
According to a message on the Pomona Unified School District Web site, Diamond Ranch is not being evacuated at this time but the students are being sheltered in the school gym. The fire does not immediately threaten the school.
