According to Chinwe Mbisike, 23, biology major, Academic Senator of Academic Students, the Save the World Project is part of the curriculum in honors class John Brantingham’s, English 1C professor. Mbisike and her group came up with the idea of a fashion show to raise money for scholarships for Mt.SAC students. The Associated Students are co-sponsoring the fashion show. It will take place on Tues. Nov. 22 at the student life 9C stage.

The red carpet event begins at 4:30 p.m. which gives the students attending the show an opportunity to dress up and take pictures, photography will be snapped by some of the photography club members. The show begins at 5 p.m. There will be performances and fashion designers.

The performers include Mt.SAC’s got talent winners, Raquel Ortiz and Quinton Peron, also Rocky Reyes and Robert Torres who are all dancers, Danielle Guzman and Joshua Wu who are singers, FireCherries, a band from the expression club, and Janessa Howard, a dance major student.

Joshua Wu, 20, communications major, and effectively involved in school clubs, is a singer. He said he will play his guitar performing a song or two written by him. “I’m most excited about the Fashion Show itself because I don’t think many people have ever been to a fashion show, (I haven’t),” he said.

The fashion designers areĀ  Mt. SAC students from the fashion department. The designers showcasing their clothes include Michelle Hebert, Liz Lee, Grace Young, Elena Rivera and Celina Galvan.

Michelle Hebert, 20, fashion design major, and part of Mt.SAC’s honor program said that she will be showcasing between six to eight of her original pieces. “I’m most excited for my fashion designs to gain exposure among the Mt. SAC students, as well as the positive impression all the designer’s creations may have on them,” she said.

The organizers include Chinwe Mbsike, Kacy Padilla, Guadalupe De La Cruz & Johann Aza and also helping are Carolyn Kuykendall and John Brantingham.

Kacy Padilla, 19, physiology major, inter club council vice chair, said that she got involved in this project because it was an assignment and this is what her group came up with. “I am excited for the students to have a fun and memorable time I am also excited that our group was able to save the world by donating money to scholarships since it is much needed for the students at Mt.SAC,” she said.

Chinwe adds, “this is something different and fun and my team decided to save our education by raising scholarship money.”
