The Accounting, Finance, and Management Club focuses on professions in the business world and gives students a number of opportunities. The club allows members to learn more about the business world, network with professionals, meet new friends, and help get involved with the community.
Club president Kyle Kearney, 16, business administration major, said, “Our club blends the professional world with the social world of college and creates an environment where you can not only network, but enjoy it at the same time.”
With over 75 active members, the club encourages Mt. SAC students to join. “It’s a club that no matter what your major is, it’s going to help you succeed,” Kearney said.
The club currently has students who are business and no- business majors alike. Club secretary Michael Acosta, 23, computer information systems major, was introduced to the club by Professor Brenda Domico, an adviser of the club.
“I’m not even an accounting or finance major. The reason why I joined is because we are so involved and we’re now taking our club to the next level,” Acosta said.
Members of the club participate in events and are able to hear and interact with many guest speakers. The club is always looking to bring in speakers from different areas of the field. Guests range from instructors to managers in the business industry.
Arthur Solis, 21, economics major, said, “They give a lot of useful information. There’s a lot of people you can meet who will help you later in life.”
On top of the workshops, the club is also dedicated to serving the community. The club participates in causes such as Pediatric Cancer Research Foundation’s Dribble for the Cure, a fundraiser walk to raise money for children with pediatric cancer. Other planned events include the City of Hope Walk and a blood drive for the Red Cross.
Club vice president Lillian Liu, 19, business administration major, said, “It’s a combination of both. We have events where we have speakers come in that are related to the business profession, but we also have events that are for charity and the greater good of the Mt. SAC campus.” Active members of the club look strongly to contribute and help the community.
With resources and knowledge for the major, active community involvement, and dedicated officers, the club has new goals and plans for the current semester and the rest of the year. Members are finding that this recipe has led to a rewarding experience and a bright future ahead.
“You’re helping yourself and helping the world little by little,” said Ferdy Godina, 24, accounting major. “If you want to meet people and have fun, this is the club to join.”
The Accounting, Finance, and Management Club meets every Tuesday at 1 p.m. in building 18-13. For more information, visit the Business Division Office.
