As part of Earth Week 2009 American Spiritual Leader Robert John spoke in Building 9C April 22.
Ken Christensen, inter club council representative, introduced John.
“Whatever you hear, I hope you find value, and apply it to your everyday life,” Christensen said.
John shared his beliefs of how humanity is interconnected through the earth.
“When I come here, I bring my whole life here to this minute,” John said. “We were taught that you should never ask this being [God] for anything because he already provides everything.”
John emphasized the fact that no matter who you are, what your beliefs may be, or where you come from, everyone can all do something to contribute to maintaining our earth.
John read a passage about the history of the Native Americans, sharing their hardships, values, and contributions to the American culture.
“The American Indian helped the white man survive,” John said. “They had endless generosity, took all and gave all.”
He said despite discrimination faced by Native Americans, they would always rise again.
After the reading, Johnson discussed nature’s tie with life.
“If you do not talk to them, you won’t know them,” John said. “If you don’t know them, then you will fear them, and if you fear them, you will destroy them.” John said nature needed to be respected and taken care of.
“My understanding is that when we talk to nature, we thank them for their gifts, and we ask them to continue to give us these gifts,” John said.
He closed with a chant.
“This song was a request to the spirit world that everyone does well, everyone it can encounter.”
“His wisdom comes from people who have been here for so many years,” EAGLE Club Co-Advisor Karyn Kakiba-Russel said. “We can all do something to contribute to and for the environment.”

I wish more people would write sites like this that are actually helpful to read. With all the crap floating around on the internet, it is a great change of pace to read a site like yours instead.
